By Montago , September 1, in Archives. I've been looking around for a guide how to clean install the newest version of XPenology into a VMWare virtual machine. Since the search feature doesn't work on this site, i found a youtube video, showing me how to install the build. Finding the correct guide is not easy in my opinion -- usually the guide is for another version of something or made for hardware installations or for another virtualization environment I've tried with Vmware compatibility, none makes any difference.
I can't comment on the installation error but the "Operating System Not Found" is probably because vmware is trying to boot from the DSM drive not the xpenoboot drive. Quick test is to remove the DSM drive from the VM configuration you can add it back later and see whether the vm boots. If it does, add it back and then edit the. I would like to get the Hyper-v synthetic drivers i have the dsm6make modules part but i dont know where to go to add this type of drivers? I would like to compil my own kernel and bzimage for DSM. I also tested XPEnoboot 5. When in boot up the vm nothing shows up when in search for a station with Synology assistent. You obviously don't know the difference between VMWare Workstation that this quick guide was written for and ESXi - which was the two guides you linked Maybe your guides should be linked in an ESXi tutorial, rather than Workstation??

None of them worked with a combi of passthrough sata disks and vmware workstation with a bridged network adapter. PS edit: the step of first adding the disks as scsi is crucial, after the first boot to the dsm install page, shutdown the vm, and remove the disks and re-add them as sata disks! Create the new Synology VM.. Move the vmdk file, created earlier, into the new VM's folder. Job done.. Hopefully this is of some use!
